A Saskatchewan health region has confirmed a second case of hantavirus was responsible for a woman’s death last month.
She’s the second person in Saskatchewan to die from the virus this year. Both cases were in the Heartland Health Region, which covers the west-central part of the province, but it’s not believed they are connected.
According to a Ministry of Health news release, hantavirus is a rare illness usually contracted from sweeping or vacuuming old buildings infested by rodents.
