Chamblin dismissing coaching criticism

As the Saskatchewan Roughriders try again to get their first win, there are lots of eyes on Head Coach Corey Chamblin.

He was asked at Tuesday’s practice how important having a thick skin is for someone in his role. He says he’s not worried about what’s being said from the outside.

“To be honest, I don’t give a damn about that,” said Chamblin on Tuesday.

He says he will continue to do his job until he’s told otherwise.

“They can come in here and boo me every day …  At the end of they day, I get a paycheque and I’m doing my job,” said Chamblin.

Chamblin is telling his players this week it’s time to push the re-set button. He’s calling this week a brand new season.

“We’ve learned a lot of lessons in three regular season games and two preseason games so it’s time for us to move forward and start applying those lessons,” he said.

Quarterback Kevin Glenn thinks it’s possible to turn this team around. He says they need to focuse on the little things in the 4th quarter to get them over the hump.

“It’s not over. Never think that it’s over. We want to be positive and we’re doing some positive things,” said Glenn.

The Green Zone’s Jamie Nye was there. Here are Chamblin’s remarks in whole.

He was first asked about the need for having a thick skin, to which he responded, “There’s two podiums waiting at the end of the year, a championship podium or a cross and I’m prepared for either one of them. If the fans want a new coach, they can get that because I’m prepared. And what I say by that is I do my best and if they’re short tempered and they want to move on, that’s up to management and them. At the end of the day I’ll still work and I’ll still be a great coach whether it’s here in Saskatchewan this year or somewhere else next year or the next couple of years. So to be honest, I don’t give a damn about that. When they want to come work and put the work in then they can get the results. Right now we’re doing some good things but at the end of the day, just stay patient and when we get that championship just make sure the guys that weren’t on our team don’t get on that boat with us.”

He was then asked about shutting out the criticism from outside the stadium.

“They can come stand in here and boo me every day. At the end of the day I get a pay cheque and I’m doing my job and until Brendan and board decide to do otherwise and if that’s what they want and they feel best to move forward then fine but the one thing about it is I think my body of work since I’ve been here has been commendable and that’s what they have to stand on. If they’re looking for more or looking for different than do what you have to do.”
