CHARLOTTETOWN — Veteran Brad Bowden scored twice and set up four more — tying his own tournament record for points in a game — as Canada cruised to a 10-1 victory against South Korea on Monday at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

Bowden, from Orton, Ont., sparked the offence with a goal just 20 seconds into the game as the Canadian squad improved to 2-0-0 in preliminary-round play.

“The first game I struggled a little bit, I wasn’t happy with the way I played individually but the second game I wanted to find a piece of me and implement that into our offence as well, while also learning the new things I’m trying to implement into my game,” said the 33-year-old Bowden.

“It was a pretty good night for everybody.”

Captain Greg Westlake added a pair of goals and an assist, Ben Delaney had a goal and two helpers and Adam Dixon, Steve Arsenault, Bryan Sholomicki, Tyler McGregor and Zach Savage each scored once.

Savage’s goal was his first for Canada in his international debut.

“At first I was nervous as I should be, it was my first game too, but fell into place with the boys and rallied along,” said Savage.

Corbin Watson stopped 8-of-9 shots for the win.

Jong-Ho Jang put South Korea (0-2-0) on the board in the third period when it was already 9-0 Canada.

Canada’s next game is Wednesday against the United States, which is also 2-0-0 after hammering Norway (0-2-0) 8-0 earlier in the day.

The U.S. beat Canada in last year’s championship game to win the tournament for the second year in a row. The Americans have taken top spot four times at the event. Canada has won the Challenge five times to lead all nations at the four-team competition.
