Early yields show promise in this week’s crop report

It’s still early in the harvest season, but producers across Saskatchewan are starting to see above average yields for most crops.

With three per cent of the 2016 crop cut and in the bin, yields in the province are estimated to be above the five and 10-year averages across all crops, with the exception of lentils and chickpeas, which took a hit in last month’s heavy rainfall.

In Prince Albert, 15 per cent of the winter wheat has been combined so far, while only one per cent of peas and canola in the region has been cut.

Cropland topsoil moisture in the region is rated as 54 per cent adequate, while hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is 63 per cent adequate.
