Severe weather has little impact on crop condition

Despite all the rain across the province in recent weeks, it’s all calm on the horizon for the most part in Saskatchewan Agriculture’s weekly crop report.

According to the report, crops across the province are developing normally. Fifty-three per cent of the fall cereals, 69 per cent of the oilseeds, 67 per cent of the spring cereals and 65 per cent of the pulses are at their normal developmental stages for this time of year.

Across the province, cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 76 per cent adequate, while hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as 86 per cent adequate.

The recent heavy rain in several regions has caused crops to lodge, while some areas hardest hit by the rain remain under flooding stress. Lentils and peas in many areas are suffering from too much moisture. Disease and hail have also caused some crop damage.
