A Saskatoon teacher appeared in provincial court Friday on charges related to child pornography and attempting to have sex with a minor.

Rhett Jeffrey Lundgren, 39, was arrested Thursday following a police search of his Saskatoon home.

He is charged with two counts of arranging to commit a sexual offence against a child and one count of attempting to access child pornography.

The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit began its investigation on Nov. 29 and sent out a release Friday detailing the charges.

Lundgren is employed as a teacher at Walter Murray Collegiate.

A spokesperson for Saskatoon Public Schools said Lundgren is to remain at home with pay until both his criminal matters and a separate investigation by the school board are concluded.

Parents of children attending Walter Murray have been sent letters explaining the situation and outlining who they can contact if they have concerns.

Lundgren was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 as a member of the national championship-winning 1996 Saskatoon Hilltops.
