Churchill Community High School (CCHS) in La Ronge has landed $25,000 in funding for new technology, thanks to the Staples Superpower Your School contest.

Awarded annually for the past seven years, the contest recognizes schools who display a commitment to environmental stewardship and helps respond to the growing need for technology in the classroom.

CCHS emerged as one of 10 winners out of a contest that saw almost 700 schools entered from across the country.

The high school was recognized for weaving environmental awarness into their school-wide programming, like a composting project that helps grow food to support lunch and breakfast programs for students, initiative building and community outreach work.

Continuing to expanding its environmental practice beyond the classroom, the school is set to host the first northern-wide environmental conference for students in Saskatchewan.

The event will attract students from across the province, with a key aspect centring around the integration of Indigenous perspectives into the conservation process.

Here, students will also look to develop an Environmental Action Plan to bring back to their communities in an effort to help spread awareness for environmental responsibility across Northern Saskatchewan.

CCHS is looking to use the funds to purchase some new audio/video equipment and software to allow students to build a northern network of eco-minded communication and share ‘how to’ videos on sustainable practices for their unique location and cultural areas.
