An inquest into the death of a young woman at Pine Grove Correctional Centre is set to begin this hour in Prince Albert.

Shauna Wolf, 27, died Dec. 27, 2015 while being held on remand at the women’s jail. According to a statement by the Ministry of Justice, Wolf was found unresponsive in her cell by correctional staff who called an ambulance and administered first aid. Wolf was transported to Victoria Hospital by paramedics where she was pronounced dead.

A public inquest into her death is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. this morning and run until Friday at Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench. The goal of the inquest, which will be presided over by Regina Coroner Neil Robertson, will be to determine the cause and manner of Wolf’s death. The jury will be given an opportunity to make recommendations in order to prevent similar deaths from occurring in the future.
