One future RCMP service dog will bear the name Kato thanks to Prince Albert’s Joseph Knutson who submitted the winning entry for the 2017 RCMP Name the Puppy contest.

The RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail, Alberta received close to 21,000 entries for their contest to name the first 13 puppies born at the centre this year.

All the names had to start with the letter K. When multiple entries suggested the same name, a draw was performed to determine the winner.

The winning names are: Kage, Kai, Kammo, Kaos, Karma, Kate, Kato, Kaya, Kayla, Kazoo, Knight, Koda and Kullu.
