Seeding picks up in P.A. and region

After a cold and wet last week, seeding in Prince Albert is moving along, albeit at a slow pace.

Currently, 25 per cent is in the ground, up just four per cent from the week previous. The five-year average for this time of year is 56 per cent, indicating seeding conditions are still less than ideal. It is estimated 15 per cent of fields may remain unseeded due to over saturation.

Topsoil moisture conditions, however, have greatly improved over the week before. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 46 per cent surplus and 54 per cent adequate. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as 39 per cent surplus, 60 per cent adequate.

Most crops have yet to break through, but are expected to be at or slightly behind normal growth for this time of year. The frost from last week is not expect to cause much damage.
