Meadow Lake and Flying Dust FN under temporary fire ban

Due to a breakdown with one of their fire engines, the Meadow Lake Fire Department has placed the City of Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation under a temporary fire ban. It is expected to last no more than a week.

“One of our trucks had a breakdown, so our fire response capacity is a little bit less than normal,” Fire Chief Neil Marsh said. “Because of that, we’ve asked for a temporary fire ban as a precaution.”

He said the public’s cooperation with the ban will help reduce response numbers.

“If fires aren’t lit on purpose, then there’s less danger for something getting away causing us to need to respond,” Marsh said. “Anytime we’ve got one of our fire engines down for an extended period for maintenance, especially in the summer, we’ll ask for a ban. Even though right now it’s been wet and rainy out, things can still happen.”
