Showing a love of cars for a good cause

Cars can do more than just get a person from point A to point B. They can be an expression of personality, hard work, and pride.

This was on full display at this year’s Show & Shine hosted by the Meadow Lake Cruisers. The event, now in its eighteenth year, had over 20 vehicles with everything from classic to current.

The car club brings together enthusiasts and also works to raise funds for various community causes.

Club President Bill Krasicki said the club meets regularly to share ideas, discuss events, and come up with fundraising endeavours.

“The idea behind our club is to promote cars, and be a part of the community,” he said. “We also always give money to P.A.C.E. (People Advocating for Children with Exceptionalities).

Fellow club member Yvonne Von Grad mentioned the club has supported other causes as well.

“This year we’re also raising money to fix the clock at City Hall,” she noted. “In the past, we’ve donated to the hospital and have discussed donating to the lodge as well.”

She added people come from all over to attend Meadow Lake’s event, and no car is off-limits.

“We have cars from old to new, restored to just pulled out of the bush. We’re open to everything, and have a great mix here this year,” she said.

Meadow Lake’s Clint Zacharias has been attending the local car show for about seven years. He said it is a great way to network with others.

“You’ve got a bunch of people with the same interests,” he said. “We can all learn from each other which is great, and we enjoy showing our cars.”

He got into the hobby thanks to a deep sense of nostalgia.

“When I was a kid, I had a 1957 Meteor, and it was my first love,” noted Zacharias. “Then my wife and I met. On our 40th anniversary, we found this car and bought it. We had just started dating when I had the first car, so I’m glad to have another one for that reason.”
