Gunshots fired in Meadow Lake

A recent rash of criminal activities reported in Meadow Lake are believed to be related.

This morning around 1:30 a.m., local police received multiple calls regarding what were believed to be gunshots in the 500 block of Second St. W.

In a media release, Meadow Lake RCMP Sgt. Ryan How said throughout the night, officers were able to identify a suspect vehicle and locate it. The vehicle turned out to be a stolen truck.

“Further investigation led to two suspects being identified and subsequently arrested shortly before 10 a.m.,” he said. “A 17-year-old and a 42-year-old are being held in custody with multiple charges pending against them. No damage was found from any gunshots and no injuries [were] reported.”

The release goes on to say that at 1 p.m., RCMP acted on information that more evidence could located at a residence on Ninth Ave. West.

Once on scene, a different 17-year-old male was located in possession of a shotgun. During this arrest police said numerous other weapons were seized including swords and bats, and a .22 calibre rifle (pictured above) believed be stolen.

How added Meadow Lake RCMP investigators believe all suspects involved in discharging the firearm are in custody (two 17-year-olds and a 42-year-old).

“Charges are pending on all, and will be sorted out over the next 24 hours,” he said.

With information from the arrest at 1 p.m., a second residence on Ninth Ave. W. was searched by RCMP. Draysen Bigham – who was wanted on previous warrants related to an April 22 home invasion – was arrested. Large quantities of crack and soft cocaine, as well as cash, were also seized.

How said these occurrences are all believed to be related to another incident that took place on Highway 4, just South of Meadow Lake on Friday, May 26.

A male driving a Black GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab truck with chrome door bumper strips and smoked tail lights cut a semi-trailer off and then pointed a handgun at the driver. Immediately following, the truck turned around and drove back towards Meadow Lake. The driver of the black truck is described as approximately 30 years of age, Aboriginal, stocky, and wearing dark clothing.

Included in the list of events is when an ATV was erratically driven throughout the city, How said.

He said investigators believe that all of the aforementioned incidents are related a specific group of people and to the drug trade.

“All involved are being investigated as being part of a criminal organization,” he said in an interview. “That specific charge will be sought, though has yet to be laid.

“Anyone with information regarding [any of] these events is encouraged to call the Meadow Lake RCMP immediately. Any suspicious activity should also be reported.”
