Final day for STC bus service

Saskatchewan’s Crown bus company is ceasing operations Wednesday after 70 years in service.
The Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) will drop off its last passengers Wednesday night before shutting down permanently, in a move announced back in March as part of the provincial budget.
The Brad Wall government cited declining ridership and rising costs as the reasons for closing the service, amid efforts to contain a $1 billion deficit.
The last-ever STC bus will leave from Prince Albert at 7:30 p.m. and arrive in Hudson Bay at 11:30 p.m.
The last bus will leave Regina at 6 p.m., arriving in Preeceville at 10:20 p.m.
A group called Stop the Cuts is planning various activities throughout the day in protest of STC being wound down.
Those include gatherings at various STC depots throughout the province, and a social media campaign encouraging people to share their memories of the bus service.
