Warm, dry weather helps seeding along

Thanks to favourable weather, seeding in the Prince Albert region doubled compared to the week previous.

Seeding is currently 84 per cent complete, where a week ago it was only 43. Warm, dry weather was responsible for the progress. Farmers are still slightly behind the five-year average, which sits at 95 per cent.

Some farmers are still having difficulty getting on to wet fields, and some crops from last season have yet to be harvested. Luckily, very little rain was received in the region. Prince Albert received the most with five millimetres.

Topsoil moisture conditions have greatly improved. Croplands are rated at 10 per cent surplus and 86 per cent adequate. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as seven per cent surplus and 90 per cent adequate.
