There will be a new judge taking the bench at the provincial court in Meadow Lake.

Today, the Government of Saskatchewan announced that Michelle Baldwin will be taking over the position from the retiring Judge Donald Bird.

Baldwin received a law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006, and began her career as a lawyer with the civil litigation branch of the Canadian Department of Justice. She also spent time as a federal prosecutor with public prosecution in Nunavut.

The media release from the Saskatchewan Department of Justice said Baldwin’s law practice in northern Indigenous communities has provided her with a unique perspective on the issues Indigenous people face in the justice system.
