Anyone who knew Eddy Duchscher understood he had two passions in his life; family and cars.

Those same people also know he would have been very proud to have his two children Corey and Kirstie Duchscher organize the 1st Annual Eddy Duchscher Memorial Car /Bike Rally held this past Saturday in Wilkie.

“[Eddy Duchscher] would have loved this,” son Corey said as he looked around at the many classic and new vehicles that showed up to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Eddy died of brain cancer 15 years ago and his children wanted to do something to honour their father and thought this was the perfect fit.

“I remember when I was a little kid travelling with dad, almost every weekend to a car show like this,” Corey said. “We would go anywhere there was a show. It was so much fun.”

Daughter Kirstie added that her father’s favourite car was his classic 1969 Pontiac Firebird, which was on display at the show.

“He loved that Firebird,” Kirstie said.

“I think my favourite memory of my dad was going with him and his friends to the car shows like this” Corey said. “He and his friends would go as a group and they were always telling jokes and stories. They were fun to be around.”

On display at the show were vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles – some dating back to the 1950’s. One participant even brought an electric car to the event.  Also making an appearance was a Crown Victoria Police Cruiser used in the hit TV comedy Corner Gas.
