What to do for Canada 150

Jun 11, 2017 | 6:00 PM

Canada 150 is quickly approaching and essentially all residents around the Battlefords area will be able to find an event near them.

Fort Battleford will be hosting Fort Fest ’17 on July 1 starting at noon and will have a wide range of activities available for attendees.

For the kids, there will be a petting zoo, bouncy castle and the opportunity to take a photo with an RCMP officer wearing their Red Serge uniforms on horseback. The Fort will also feature a historical demonstration and exhibit of authentic military weapons that were used by the North West Mounted Police over one hundred years ago.

The fun doesn’t stop there, however. There will also be supper, a beer garden, live music and fireworks to end the event with a bang.

To the south of the Battlefords, Wilkie also has a strong lineup of events throughout the day. Starting off the day at 8 a.m., a pancake breakfast will take place at the New Horizon Hall. Following the breakfast, attendees can participate in activities such as a walkathon, free swimming at the Wilkie pool, supper and a street dance.

Manitou Lake Regional Park has a full day planned for Canada 150 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. as well. The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast and opening ceremonies followed by numerous activities such as face painting, slo-pitch tournaments, mini pony rides, beer gardens, fireworks and more.

North of the Battlefords, Greig Lake is also hosting an all day celebration for Canada 150. Attendees can expect live entertainment, face painting, games, and of course, fireworks.
