Two North Battleford residents are trying to raise some positives from the ashes of the two house fires last week with a fundraiser for the families affected.

On Thursday, June 8 a fire claimed two homes on Centennial Cres. in North Battleford. Local residents Tiffany Delorme and Ashley Lennie decided to create something positive from the tragedy.

“At first it was just going to be a simple barbecue at my place, but then we decided to make it bigger and get the whole community together” Delorme said. “We wanted to do something positive.”

Delorme and Lennie are now organizing a big barbecue at Central Park in North Battleford on June 24 from noon to 4 p.m. The city has already approved the event and musician Gord Slater is booked to play live music. The two women are hoping more artists will join. Delorne said multiple barbecues have been donated for the event, along with a cotton candy machine.
