A Prince Albert woman who stabbed her cousin in a fight over a former boyfriend was handed a six-month jail sentence this morning.

Arlene McAdam, 28, was arrested Feb. 17 at a 7-Eleven convenience store on Second Ave. W. Crown prosecutor Gail Douglas said when police arrived at the store just after 9:30 p.m. the victim was covered in blood from numerous cuts caused by McAdam, who used a steak knife during the assault.

Douglas said McAdam encountered her cousin and former boyfriend by chance at the store, and the jealous McAdam shouted “you’re with my old man now?” before punching her cousin in the head. The cousin responded by tackling McAdam to the floor, at which point McAdam pulled the knife. The boyfriend managed to intervene and break up the fight, Douglas said, but not before McAdam inflicted 11 cuts on her cousin’s torso, arms and head.

Although the entire incident was captured on the store’s surveillance video, Douglas said nobody involved was willing to give a statement to police. McAdam’s cousin told the investigating officers that she did not want any charges laid.
