UPDATE: Standoff concluded in North Battleford

An update as of 12:30 p.m. on June 24.

Police have the area under control now and are allowing traffic to run freely though after a standoff today which lasted hours. 

Police surrounded the house on 101st St. North of 20th Ave. regarding what they confirmed was a firearms complaint. According to RCMP, they are currently searching the house but won’t comment further. Police closed the entire block off with help from Community Safety Officers, keeping onlookers roughly a kilometer back in every direction.

At least two suspects were arrested outside the property after RCMP demanded they come out with their hands up over a loud speaker. Both where detained without incident. RCMP would not say if there were more arrests made and would not release names but both were male and appeared to be in their early 20’s or late teens.

More information will be provided as soon as we have more details.

An update on the standoff in North Battleford as of 10:45 a.m. on June 24.

It appears to be reaching a conclusion as two males came out of the house on 101st street just north of 20th ave. They had their hands up and were arrested without incident. Police seem to be expecting more to emerge from the home.

It is believed the standoff began as early as 4 am and is surrounding a firearms complaint. The K-9 unit is on scene as well as the Emergency Response Team.

We will have more information as it becomes available. 

A house on 101st St. north of 20th Ave. is currently surrounded by police, some with assault rifles drawn.

RCMP have told residents in neighboring homes to stay inside and have built a perimeter, telling anyone watching they will be arrested for interference if they cross a certain point. Witnesses have been cooperative so far.

There has been no explanation from RCMP as to why they have surrounded the house. Witnesses said police have been there since at least 4 a.m. A young woman showed up at around 7 a.m. and told RCMP she lives in the duplex and there is no threat. She later left the scene when police denied her access to the house. RCMP would not comment on whether contact has been made with those in the house. 

There have been rumblings RCMP are waiting on the K-9 unit to arrive, but that has not been confirmed.

At least four officers have what appear to be high powered assault rifles. Two have been in front of the house constantly aimed at the home while using vehicles to shield them. At least two other officers also armed with assault rifles, have been circling the house.
