One of Canada’s country music greats is stopping by the Meadow Lake Arena on Saturday, July 15 as part of her summer show circuit.

Terri Clark, who grew up in Medicine Hat, Alta., has been a strong force on the Canadian music scene since her early days in the mid-1990s. Her first self-titled debut was released in 1995.

The platinum-selling artist has won the Canadian Country Music Award for Entertainer of the Year eight times and Female Vocalist five times, and is the only female Canadian artist so far to be a member of the Grande Ole Opry.

She was busy last fall with an extensive tour of her solo show called Back to My Roots from September to November 2016.

This coming summer, Clark said she is hitting a lot of fairs, festivals and outdoor shows on the weekends.

“I never stop touring,” she said. “I’m having a good time. It’s a lot of flying out to meet the bus, as I have a cottage in Ontario that I base myself out of. It’s nice to see so many Canadian shows on the books. It’s always fun playing in Canada over the summer because people are very festive because they get warm weather.”

She said she’s excited to come to Meadow Lake, and knows the province well.

“I’ve played all over the province many times over the last 22 years,” Clark said. “I’ve had some great times in Saskatchewan and playing for people there, look forward to doing it again.”

She said that those who come out to the Meadow Lake show are in for a great night of connecting through music. She added her band of musicians and friends get along well, as they’ve travelled frequently together. She said those attending the concert can expect to hear some Terri Clark classics like Northern Girl and Here for a Good Time, and many other songs that have done well in the United States and Canada alike.

“The show really ebbs and flows,” she said. “It starts out with a bang and then it comes down in the middle, where we’ll do some acoustic versions of some of my hits. Then we ramp it back up again at the end. We have a couple fun cover tunes that we do that we’ve added to the show. I might do something brand new. It’s just a lot of fun, a lot of high energy, humour, and hopefully a good connection between me and the audience – that’s what it’s all about.”

Clark said she feels beyond fortunate to be a country music performer, and enjoys playing venues large and small and connecting with fans from all over.

“Part of what makes country music what it is, is how relatable it is to people,” she said. “I just love to play for people who are there to have a good time, and to connect and enjoy music. It’s beyond hit records or money or anything like that, it’s about connecting with people in a positive way, making them smile for a while. It’s almost like a spiritual experience to me, playing live for people, and knowing that I’m fulfilling what I’m put on this planet to do. I really know that my life’s work is doing this. That’s how I make my difference in people’s lives for that short amount of time when I’m playing music. It’s really important to me to get out and play live as much as I can. I can’t wait to see you guys in Meadow Lake.”

Tickets for the Meadow Lake show are available at the Meadow Lake Co-op or on Ticketmaster.
