Canada 150 – What’s happening in the M.L. region?

A sesquicentennial anniversary doesn’t happen every day or every year.

It’s been 150 years since Canada officially came together as a country in 1867. This July 1 celebration this coming weekend is a set to memorable one, and the Meadow Lake region is no different.

There is a wide array of events happening at various locations. Due to the multitide of events, we decided to pull together an exhaustive list to help plan your day and evening celebrations.

 

Meadow Lake

Hosted by the Meadow Lake Legion

From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m there will be Pancake Breakfast at the Alliance Church.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m the Seniors Centre is hosting a Cribbage/Kaiser/Canasta Pool. 

There will be Kids’ Bike Parade at 1 p.m. at the Lions’ Park Track with prizes for the best decorated bike.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be face painting by KidSport, crafts by Positively Parenting , bouncy castles from Meadow Lake Search and Rescue. Free hot dogs, cake, freezies and water (free hot dogs from Co-op and Extra Foods, freezies from the Meadow Lake Library) at the Pineridge Ford Ampitheatre in Lions Park.

From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. there will also be evening entertainment at Pineridge Ford Ampitheatre in Lions Park featuring Caitlin Englebrecht, Marty Bishop and Doug Twidale, and Just the Boyz feat. Loretta King. (Rain location: Meadow Lake Civic Centre.)

The evening will be  capped off with fireworks at dusk at the Stampede Grounds, weather permitting.

 

Hosted by the Meadow Lake Museum

Old Fashioned Tea will be held at the museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with tea, coffee, scones and jam served on fancy china, plates, cups and saucers. The event is free, but donations are appreciated.

 

Greig Lake – Meadow Lake Provincial Park

 

There will be free admission to Saskatchewan Parks on Canada Day. Located in the day use area of the park, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be blacksmithing by Mont Wilkins and beading by Houkje Wendt. At 1 p.m.there will be face painting and games. At 3 p.m. there will be a celebration cake. From 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Red Neck Country will perform, and from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m, Danger Street will provide more musical entertainment. Fireworks at dusk will also cap the evening off, courtesy of the Brander Family.

 

Dorintosh

At 11 a.m. there will be karaoke, volleyball, and bobbing for apples. From 12 p.m to 3 p.m., face painting and balloon animals will be available, and Dirt Road Maniacs will be playing in the evening at the Parkland Hotel

 

Loon Lake

A pancake breakfest will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Loon Lake Recreation Centre. There will also be a parade at 11 a.m. on Main St, with burgers and beverages at the Legion to follow. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a farmers’ Market at the Legion And from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be pie and Coffee at the museum. There will also be live entertainment at Jumbo Beach all day and a phenomenal fireworks display at dusk.
