It was a great celebration and a wonderful way to kick off the weekend for Canada’s Parks Day.

Saskatchewan Express, the touring singing and dancing troupe with cast members from all across the province, was at the ball diamond at Greig Lake Friday evening. Well over 100 attendees enjoyed the musical extravaganza, which was themed in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

The ensemble performed a wide variety of songs, including tunes celebrating each province and an extensive sampling of Canadian artists like Anne Murray, The Tragically Hip, Dean Brody, Great Big Sea, Paul Anka, Leonard Cohen, and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. They also featured Saskatchewan-based stars like Buffy St. Marie, Jess Moskaluke and Donny Parenteau.

Songs from both Canada and Saskatchewan’s centennial were performed alongside a song from a Broadway musical based on Newfoundland and Labrador; Come From Away, and pieces penned to celebrate the 1988 and 2010 Olympics that took place in Calgary and Vancouver, respectively.
