M.L. Library staff prepares for August programs

As a hub of the community, the staff at the Meadow Lake Library is busy preparing its diverse and inclusive summer programming schedule.

Tawn Marshall, the programming clerk at the library, said events at the library are always planned with families in mind. Some of the events include the Lakeland Summer Players on August 10, which is a performance troupe which travels around the library region doing puppet shows and games, and the ever-popular ‘Rambling Reptile Roadshow’ on August 17. Some other events also include a paleontology day to teach kids about dinosaurs.

“We’ve got a pretty good creative staff,” Marshall said. “We also share ideas with librarians across the province. We just try to get a good variety of what we can and have different activities for different age groups. [We] have a lot of fun with it.”

She said the reptile roadshow is always a hit, and the theatre performance, while tailored for children aged four to nine years old, is open to everyone.

“Who doesn’t want to come see reptiles?” Marshall said. The summer players program goes about an hour or so and is family friendly.”

She said the staff tries to bring in activities that make everyone in the community feel welcome to attend, and are free of charge.

“We get a variety of people at the library that is really quite impressive,” she said. “It’s nice to see and we like to be the place that anyone is welcome. This year I was really fortunate to get the SaskLotteries Community grants to run our summer, and it’s always so nice when we can buy some quality materials and have some variety here that you might not normally be able to access in a community our size. We’re so thankful for the grant and the City of Meadow Lake for managing that.”

There is a mix of open programming and some activities that require registration to ensure there is enough space and materials.

“Anyone can access these programs,” she said.

The library has their events on meadowlakeNOW.com’s Community Calendar.
