After a rousing weekend of Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Assocation (CPCA) action, Loon Lake’s Ray Mitsuing and his team took home the title.

The event took place during the evenings of Friday, July 28, Saturday July 29, and the afternoon of Sunday, July 30.

Mitsuing was the leader for the weekend aggregate total, with a combined lead time of 3:11.69. In second and third place respectively were Todd Baptiste, with a time of 3:13.93 and CPCA overall points leader, St. Walburg’s Wayne Knight with a time of 3:14.15.

Mitsuing said he was elated to win at the Meadow Lake show, which was hosted by the local Lions Club.

“It’s pretty well our home show. We have a lot of fans here. It’s great to win here, feels good,” he said after receiving the Championship buckle on Sunday afternoon.

His sons Dale and Darren were also riding along with their father, so this weekend’s win was truly a family affair.

“It’s great to have both of my sons riding for me,” he said. “Not too many guys get to say that, and here in front of this home crowd is a big plus for us as well.”

Mitsuing, along with the other riders in the CPCA circuit will be heading to Frog Lake, Alta. next weekend for races in the community. Mitsuing said aside from travelling to the next race site, it will be a week of rest for both the horses and riders alike.

“We’ll be in more of a rest period now,” he said. “We’re just going to look after the horses. There won’t be any training or anything.”

He said the Meadow Lake show was a wonderful event and said he was grateful for the amount of work the organization’s volunteers did to host the races.

“They did a great job on the race track, everybody did a real good job here,” he said. “Their work really pulls everything together.”
