Tickets for the 2017 Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Grand Prize Lottery go on sale Monday, Aug. 14 and while someone will take home $100,000 in November, the real winner will be the hospital’s cataract program.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Claudette McGuire, executive director of the BUH Foundation, said. ”This marks our 23rd lottery and each year the excitement grows.”

Only 12,500 tickets will be sold along with the 50/50 enhancement prize which according to McGuire usually nets the winner over $50,000. There will also be 65 additional cash prizes draws up for grabs.

“It’s one of the nicest calls I get to make every year,” McGuire said. “I get to call someone and tell them they have won $100,000.”

Proceeds will assist the BUH cataract program with equipment updates including patient stretchers, a vital signs monitor and most importantly a Centurion Vision System which assists with cataract surgeries.

McGuire said the current piece of equipment is over 10 years old.

“The BUH does about 800 cataract surgeries every year so it’s vital that we have updated equipment to provide the very best care for the patients,” McGuire said.

Tickets are one for $50, three for $125 and five for $200. They can be purchased online by going the BUH Grand Lottery website. The deadline for ticket purchases will be Friday, Nov. 3 and the draw will be made on Nov. 10 at the BUH.
