Town Hall planned for North Battleford

People concerned about recent cuts to Crown corporations will have an opportunity to sound off in North Battleford.

The Cuts and Crowns event is planned by a group of citizens who belong to the organization Stop the Cuts. Some members are also affiliated with a group called Save STC.

“This event is going to focus around questions of privatization, Crown corporations, and some of the cuts made in the budget,” JoAnn Jaffe said, a concerned citizen who is based in Saskatoon, and will be taking part in the local event. “It’s to give people a chance to talk about what’s happening.”

She said there will also be an opportunity for participants “to brainstorm a little bit,” to look at ways the community can respond to the challenges imposed in the province’s austere budget.

The panel will also discuss how the provincial budget cuts impact the community.

A rally was held in North Battleford this past spring protesting cuts to the STC bus service, which was discontinued in North Battleford in May.

“I have been working on the STC-file, but people are also concerned about cuts to social services,” Jaffe said. “There are quite a few things people have said they want to talk about.”

The event, called Cuts and Crowns, will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Third Avenue United Church in North Battleford.

The event will include a panel discussion and an opportunity for the public to provide feedback.
