A 35-year-old man from the Thunderchild First Nation appeared in court today after a knife swinging incident with Battleford’s RCMP early Saturday morning.

In a media release, Battleford’s RCMP Cpl. James Fenrich said the suspect broke into a residence on the 1400 block of 99 St. in Battleford then fled when he realized someone was home.

Fenrich added officers located the suspect in an alley carrying stolen property. When the suspect was approached Fenrich said the suspect brandished a knife and swung it at police.

The officers talked the suspect into dropping the knife. He was then arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault on a police officer with a weapon, break and enter with intent and possession of property obtained by crime.
