Fifteen people were charged and thousands of dollars worth of liquor seized during a series of targetted arrests in northern communities.

Between Aug. 17 and 18, members of the Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay, Southend and Creighton RCMP Detachments hit area roads and highways singling-out alcohol and traffic-related offences.

Significant amounts of liquor were seized and 15 people charged with canvassing, possession or bootlegging. The total estimated street value of the seized liquor was almost $6,400. In addition to the seizures roughly 880 vehicles were checked, seven traffic safety act violations were issued and one arrest warrant was executed.

RCMP will conduct more initiatives throughout the year. The goal is to disrupt the supply of alcohol sold illegally in northern Saskatchewan communities.
