UPDATE: 72-year-old man dies in semi crash
A 72-year-old man has died on Highway 302 today due to a semi crash roughly 25 km west of Prince Albert near Lily Plain.
Prince Albert’s Fire Chief Jason Everitt, who was directing traffic on the scene, said a semi went into the ditch before 9 a.m. this morning and caught fire. The fire was extinguished by firefighters, he said, and the scene was turned over to the RCMP. The driver and lone occupant of the semi, an elderly man from Shellbrook, died on scene.
Staff Sgt. Robert Lutzko, of the Prince Albert RCMP detachment, could not confirm if any injuries or fatalities resulted from the crash, but said he expects the highway will remain partially closed for much of the day.
Traffic was restricted around the location for several hours, but the highway has now re-opened to normal traffic.
