Local youth joins teens across Canada on Ottawa trip
A Grade 12 Meadow Lake student learned a bit more about the life of other teengers across Canada after a recent school trip to Ottawa.
Leila Mitchell, along with her classmate Zane Klics departed on an activity-filled week-long trip with Encounters with Canada on Sept. 9 and returned this past weekend. They were two of 130 participants in a law and justice-themed week.
Mitchell said the trip was one of the best weeks of her life as she had the chance to meet and interact with others her age across the country. Over the course of the week, the group toured Parliament, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the Canadian War Museum. There were also several guest speakers, including government representatives and a war veteran.
Mitchell said she knew other Carpenter High students who attended the program and she decided this past spring to apply.
