A Meadow Lake business is one of the province’s biggest and most profitable.

SaskBusiness Magazine placed the member-owned, community-based Meadow Lake Co-op 74th out of the top 100 businesses in Saskatchewan. The local grocer is one of 19 retail co-operatives across the province to receive the recognition.

Operations Manager John Decker attributes the accomplishment to the 165 hardworking and dedicated staff members.

“Without [them] out there doing what we consider to be world class service to our customers – first and foremost we have to thank them,” he said. “In conjunction with that, we’re doing whatever we can do to offer top value products to the consumer at fair pricing in our market.”

He said the honour was thrilling for management and staff.

“They feel a real sense of pride in us having achieve this recognition again this year,” Decker said. “Also being able to realize the rewards of their efforts that they do every day. It might seem pretty miniscule, but in the big picture this is what everyone is working towards.”

He said members of the Meadow Lake Co-op are proud of staying active in the community by participating and contributing to community-based events like barbecues, attending local fundraisers, and providing donations and volunteers from fundraisers to local non-profit organizations.

“We feel that the more we can contribute back into the community, that’s going to lend itself to the sustainability of not only our organization but the community as a whole,” Decker said.
