City wants input on Community Services Plan

Prince Albert citizens will have two chances next week to offer their input on the city’s Community Services Master Plan.

A draft of the master plan, which covers the city’s delivery of recreation, arts, culture and parks services, has been prepared and will be on display at two open house events on Oct. 16 and 17. City representatives will share their findings based on feedback from the public.

It is important for the city to consult a broad audience, Jody Boulet, Prince Albert’s director of community services said, as the master plan will help guide the city’s activities into the future.

“It’s going to help us in forming the recommendations that we’d like to finalize by the end of the year in the master plan,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot for people to see.”

The public consultations began in January, and as a result, Boulet said the city already has some idea of what the people want. When it comes to community services, Boulet said it appears P.A. wants water.

“As far as indoor facilities are concerned, certainly aquatics has been the number-one priority that people have pointed to,” Boulet said. “On the outdoor side of things, certainly water, spray park features, playgrounds.”

The first open house will be held Monday, Oct. 16 at the Art Hauser Centre from 6-8 p.m. The second will take place the following night, Oct. 17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

The display boards will then be moved to City Hall where the public can view them until the end of the month, and they will also be available online.

There will be a lot for people to take in, according to Boulet, but the city has worked hard to make everything easy to understand. Though the master plan won’t be finalized until the end of the year, he said the city will continue to consult as often as possible to ensure residents have a say in how their tax dollars are spent.

“We’re always evolving with the community,” Boulet said.
