Pumpkins and poltergeist

Fun and frights have taken over George Lewko’s property.

For the fifth year, Paintball Paradise will again house hordes of haunt, home to everything from a spooky corn maze to a haunted house. Pumpkin’ chunkin’, where people shoot a small pumpkin from a giant slingshot into a slough, and more family-friendly events like the Jack and the Corn Stock Fairy Tale Trail also have taken over the farm a few miles south of Prince Albert.

“Scaring people is really good. We have lots of fun with that,” Lewko said with a smile, saying families have a howl of a good time each year.

The weekend Pumpkin Festival is a celebration of all things pumpkin. From pumpkin pie to pumpkin soup, and even a plethora of pumpkins piled high for sale, there is something for everyone.

“We have got a mini bail maze which the kids love and people love taking pictures with all the pumpkins,” he said, noting over twelve types of pumpkins on offer thanks to the half acre of pumpkin patch the Lewko family farms.

Zombie laser tag will also run on a come and go basis. The hot kitchen and canteen are open and stocked with everything to keep warm, fill up and cool down. With the site decked out in sinister decor, the natural whisper of the wind and fitting music echoing in the background, one’s imagination can run wild, only adding to the experience, more so as the sun goes down.

Lewko expects to see attendance rebound this year thanks to the warm weather. Last year, early snowfall laid ruin to much of the maze.

The pumpkin festival runs each Saturday this month, and the corn mazes and other festivities run the remaining Friday and Saturdays in October. More information on times and costs can be found online.
