RCMP seeking information after girl stabbed at party

Police are asking for information after a girl was stabbed at a party early Sunday morning.

According to the Prince Albert RCMP, officers and paramedics were called to the outdoor party in the RM of Buckland at 1 a.m., after a complaint reported a female youth suffering apparent stab wounds. She was taken to hospital, police said, but no further details on her condition are currently available.

RCMP said they are investigating the incident, and called for anyone with information to come forward. Police said they want any cell phone videos recorded at the party, and said tips can be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Multiple parents have told paNOW the incident occurred at a high school annual football rookie party, a student-organized gathering not sanctioned by the school. According to parents, the party was held at a private rural residence roughly 35 kilometres north-east of Prince Albert and was attended by hundreds of students.

The parents asked not to be identified because they believed the stabbing could be gang-related and said they were concerned about potential retaliation against their own children.

Robert Bratvold, director of education with the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division, said he is aware of the incident but was not able to provide any additional details. Bratvold said it appears to have been an “isolated conflict between a small number of students.”

“I think this is fairly localized,” Bratvold said. “At this point, that’s our understanding.”

Bratvold said he was not aware of any gang involvement in the incident. To concerned parents, Bratvold emphasized the importance of teaching children how to avoid potentially unsafe environments and teaching them to leave if a situation begins to appear dangerous.
