Storm spares P.A. as tree clean up begins

City crews have been dealing with the aftermath of Tuesday night’s wind storm.

Director of Community Services Jody Boulet said things didn’t turn out as badly as they could have, but they have two dedicated crews working on tree damage.

“We have one crew dealing with areas that are dangerous, potentially dangerous or obstructive to roadways or properties,” Boulet said. “We also have a team in our regular park and public spaces dealing with downed branches.”

Boulet said they were tackling fallen limbs and branches and any power outages seemed to have been small and isolated. The city works closely with SaskPower when a tree has damaged a power line.

Had the storm hit a few weeks ago things could have been very different.

“We were certainly preparing for the worst and while that didn’t occur we did have strong winds,” he said. “What really helped us with the timing of this wind is that we don’t have full tree canopies; lots of the leaves are now off the trees.”

He figured there could have been more damage had the storm hit in the summer.

Any tree damage appeared to be spread across the city rather than in any specific or exposed areas.

With high winds continuing into Wednesday and some trees possibly weakened by the storm, Boulet said the public can always call the city if they spot any issues or need an inspection or assessment.

“We have a system where all requests for service are documented. We prioritize them based on if they’re an emergency or obstructing a roadway, to the lesser prioritized items. We will respond to all of them.”
