Vehicle vandalized in West Flat

Jessica Mintram woke up to a nasty surprise yesterday morning.

Mintram said when she left for work Thursday morning she found her Ford Focus, and a second vehicle belonging to her friend had both been trashed by vandals. All of the windows were smashed and the tires were punctured, she said, despite the fact nothing was stolen.

“It got towed to SGI for them to assess the damage,” she said. “I have a rental right now.”

Mintram, who lives on 15th St. W. in the city’s West Flat neighbourhood, said she reported the incident to police and even found the fence board the vandals used to smash out her window, but was told there was little chance of the perpetrators being caught.

“They gave me a card with the police file number on it and they said there was nothing they could do,” she said.

Mintram said she’ll be parking on 15th St. from now on, as it is a higher-traffic route than any of the adjacent side-streets. She said she has no idea what motivated the vandalism but suspects it was simply an opportunistic incident.

“I think it was just random. Just people walking by,” she said.
