P.A. Pokémon players team up in virtual raid

Around 40 fanatics converged on the exhibition grounds Friday for a raid. 

However, there were no swords, shields or spears — the only weapons were smart phones.

That’s because Pokémon is not dead. Not for Prince Albert aficianados anyway.

Despite reports the game may have lost some of its luster, the invitation-only Pokémon Go raid attracted enthusiasts of all ages, including Josh Bellair who was excited to hunt down the prize, known as a ‘Mewtwo.’

“So it [the Mewtwo] just recently came out so no one has one yet,” Bellair said. ”Everyone’s really hyped to get their first one and ‘legendaries’ are really hard to catch in the game.”

Given the difficulty of the task three teams – Valor, Mystic and Instinct – clutched their devices in collective search of the elusive Mewtwo.

As Bellair explained people need to hunt in packs to be successful.

“Usually you need 10 to 12 people to fight one Pokémon and try to knock it down to zero health and have a chance to catch it,” he said.

Another enthusiast Brennon Isbiter was drawn to the group event because of the rarity of the prize.

“A couple of weeks ago Melfort got a ‘Mewtwo’ and I heard a few other small towns got one as well,” he said.

Normally only the bigger cities and their larger populations get to take part in such a raid.

Of course if you’re not into Pokémon Go raids you could always watch Braveheart on Netflix.
