A worker was injured at NorSask Forest Products late last week.

The person, who was not an employee of the company, was involved in a safety-related incident at the sawmill on Friday, Nov. 17 at approximately 2:30 p.m.

CEO Al Balisky confirmed the occurrence via email, stating the worker received an injury requiring medical attention.

“Meadow Lake EMS personnel attended the scene,” he said. “The safety incident was not associated with any of NorSask’s operations or employees. It was related to the ongoing construction project at the NorSask sawmill, and involved one employee of the contractor undertaking the work.”

Balisky said as far as NorSask officials are aware, the employee is making a good recovery.

“We understand that there is an employer-led investigation underway with Saskatchewan Workers Compensation Board (WCB),” he said.

According to Amanda Fedorchuk, Communications Coordinator from the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, employers and contractors are required to report incidents and dangerous occurrences to their office. While she could not comment on this specific instance, she said the Government of Saskatchewan is committed to a goal of zero fatalities, zero injuries, and zero suffering.

“We encourage employers and workers to learn more about workplace safety by contacting WorkSafe Saskatchewan or their industry safety association,” she said. “To report an incident, [you can] contact OHS at 1-800-567-7233.”

WorkSafe is a partnership between the Ministry of Labour and the Saskatchewan WCB.
