Two injured after early morning collision

Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after an early morning collision involving a minivan and a tree. 

At around 4:09 a.m. on Dec. 2, emergency crews responded to the incident on the corner of 22nd St. East and 5 Ave. where a vehicle had collided with a tree.

Fire crews were forced to use hydraulic tools to remove one passenger from the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries. 

The area surrounding the incident was closed off from traffic for a number of hours, according to area residents, while police conducted their investigation, which remains ongoing.
