Youth Advocate report on teen suicide: initial reaction

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is welcoming the Calls to Action from the Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth.

The advocate’s report is expected to be released early this afternoon.

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson is thanking the office of Corey O’Soup for coming to their communities and schools “to listen and learn more about how our communities have been affected by youth suicide.”

The report is likely to reveal plans to help prevent youth suicide like the string seen in the North in 2016 where six girls took their own lives.

Cook-Searson’s statement said, “the report captures the voices of Indigenous youth on the realities they face and experience, and allows them to be a part of the solutions that will lead to meaningful change in their quality of life.”
