City asks residents to stop verbally abusing city workers

City of North Battleford administration are asking residents to quell thier verbal abuse towards city workers.

According to city manager Jim Puffalt, residents in the city have been less than kind to snow removal workers.

“People are screaming at our staff and being really rude when we put up barricades to do snow removal,” Puffalt said. “They are actually being abusive to our workers and of course our people are not going to respond to them and will walk away, but there is no reason for them to do that. We are just trying to do our job.”

Puffalt added the city was “sorry” to be “inconveniencing people, but swearing at our staff doesn’t make it any better, in fact, it makes it way worse.”

Often times a street will be blocked off for a number of hours when it needs to be cleaned.  Puffalt said he can sympathize with resident’s frustrations but would appreciate if they could be patient and polite to city workers simply doing their jobs.

Workers are being abused on a daily basis, according to the city manager, but police have yet to be invovled in any situations. He further reminded residents there is a $300 fine for those who drive on a barricaded street.
