Robbers arrested after stealing food in La Ronge

A 30-year-old man and 16-year-old youth were arrested early this morning after stealing food during an armed robbery in La Ronge.

The pair entered a Lac La Ronge business at approximately 1 a.m. this morning, RCMP said. According to police, one of the suspects was carrying a sawed-off rifle and the pair demanded food items from staff. Nobody inside the business was injured, and police found and arrested the alleged robbers as they were leaving the area. The rifle allegedly used during the robbery was also located by police.

Frank Clarke, 30, a resident of the La Ronge area, was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, and carrying a concealed weapon. The 16-year-old, who cannot be named under law, is also charged with pointing a firearm.

Both suspects made their first appearances today in La Ronge Provincial Court. They are presumed innocent at this stage.
