Body found in Makwa Sahgaiehcan house fire; woman still unaccounted for

A tragic discovery has been made in the investigation of a house fire that occurred this past weekend on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation near Loon Lake.

According to RCMP, the body of a deceased individual was discovered at the scene. The Office of the Chief Coroner has ordered an autopsy for today to confirm the person’s identity.

Loon Lake police responded to the incident on Sunday, Jan. 7 around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, officers said Loon Lake Fire Department was already on scene working to extinguish the fire.

At the time, several individuals exited the house and were treated for minor injuries. They told police a 32-year-old woman was unaccounted for. To date, she has yet to be located.
