A high-speed chase yesterday led to two arrests and the seizure of an assault rifle, high capacity magazine, and a quality of drugs believed to be cocaine.

The incident began Thursday morning when local RCMP responded to a vehicle complaint. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police and a monitored pursuit began. When the vehicle entered Battleford town limits, the pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.

The same vehicle was then spotted in a rural location but avoided a tire deflation device set up by RCMP. The vehicle was again located by police and eventually got stuck in a field. A brief foot chase ensued which resulted in a man and a woman taken into custody.

RCMP reported no one was injured and no property was damaged during the incident. This investigation is ongoing and charges will be forthcoming.
