Stanley trial jury asks to rehear testimony

After retiring to begin deliberations late Thursday afternoon, the jury at the Gerald Stanley murder trial asked to listen to recordings of key testimony.
Stanley, 56, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the 2016 shooting death of 22-year-old Colten Boushie, which occurred in Stanley’s farmyard Aug. 9, 2016. Stanley, who testified in his own defence Monday, said the shooting was accidental and caused by a misfire. In his closing statment Thursday morning, Crown Prosecutor William Burge alleged the shooting was either intentional murder, or manslaughter caused by careless handling of a firearm.
About four hours after retiring to begin deliberations, the jurors submitted a written request for Chief Justice Martel Popescul asking to rehear specific portions of testimony from Stanley and his 28-year-old son Sheldon.
“We want to rehear Sheldon’s testimony from when he came out of the house. We also would like to hear Gerald’s testimony from where he fired his first shot and on,” the jury’s request read.
