Catapults and tasers: Council looks to amend dangerous weapons bylaw

The city is looking to make changes to its 1961 dangerous weapons bylaw, which explicitly lists guns, slings and catapults as dangerous weapons, but is vague on specifics beyond that.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, Ward 6 Coun. Blake Edwards brought forward a motion asking to clearly indicate knives, machetes, tasers and bear spray within the bylaw as dangerous weapons. The motion also looks to increase the maximum fine from $100 to $1,000.
“This is simply an update,” Edwards said. “It is unfortunate we have to talk about this, but this is not just Prince Albert, this is all over, it simply needs an update and I think this will help the city.”
The change would also add how, in default of payment, a warrant within the radius of Prince Albert would be issued for the offender.
