For Jeannette Eddolls, spending time helping the community is what you do if you have the time. “Otherwise,” she said, “too much time can be spent with trivia.”

The life-long educator’s numerous volunteer endeavours and selfless philosophy recently caught the attention of the Prince Albert Council of Women, who named Eddolls as their 2018 inductee into the Prince Albert Women’s Hall of Fame.

“I was shocked and just totally surprised,” Eddolls told paNOW after hearing the news.

Although she was surprised by the annoucement, it should come as no surprise to the public that Eddolls has been given the honour by the Council. A glance at her resume shows her strong commitment to both her profession and volunteerism. As a retired teacher, principal and administrator in the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division, Eddolls said she is still in the classroom at SUNTEP, First Nations University of Canada and at the University of Regina, Meadown Lake. When she’s not instructing, Eddolls said she’s focused on her work as chair of Catholic Family Services, as well Grandmothers for Grandmothers, and helping out with her own church parish.

“I have time and I have good health,” she said. “I believe if a person has capacity, you offer what you have. It’s a sign of our healthy communities; if people did not get involved they would not be as vibrant.”

Eddolls’ induction into the Hall of Fame will come as just the latest in an impressive list of accolades. She was named a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA in 2005, Citizen of the Year in 2014, and in 2016 received the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. She’ll be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony March 11 at the Travelodge.
