Battlefords RCMP have recovered several high calibre rifles and arrested several youths after a police chase from Denholm to North Battleford early this morning.

The incident began when RCMP received a break and enter complaint at 5:20 a.m. in the hamlet of Denholm. Police were told the suspects had left the area with several firearms, some of which were high powered hunting rifles.

Police said the suspect vehicle was spotted speeding westbound by responding members of the RCMP. Officers followed the vehicle through North Battleford and initiated a vehicle stop on the north end of the city.

According to RCMP, the vehicle failed to stop and turned north onto Hwy 4. RCMP initiated a pursuit and attempted to slow down the vehicle by getting ahead of it and reducing speed.

Police said the vehicle rear ended the RCMP vehicle and came to a stop, at which point the suspects were arrested.

RCMP said the suspect vehicle had considerable damage, but no one was injured.

Police seized several high calibre rifles from the vehicle, matching the description of those stolen from the Denholm residence.

RCMP are not releasing the names of the suspects because they are young offenders. They are currently in custody and RCMP said the investigation is ongoing. Police did not say how many suspects were arrested.

The Battleford’s Detachment also said it wants to remind everyone it takes crime very seriously and is doing targeted enforcement in collaboration with RCMP F division and the City of North Battleford. RCMP said this is in direct response to a need and a dedication to keeping rural areas safe and secure.

The RCMP asked anyone with information about this or other crimes to please contact the Battleford’s or Crime Stoppers.
